The alternator remains at deck level for all operations. Slow Speed DuoGen features a purpose-designed, powerful, three-phase permanent magnet AC alternator, solid state rectified to produce high quality, ripple-free DC. The alternator is a low friction, ironless design, totally free from cogging, so promoting early turbine start-up. A cut-in speed of 220 rpm and rated output of 100 watts at only 450 rpm are the unsurpassed characteristics of this slow speed alternator You can deploy the DuoGen water mode prior to leaving the marina or mooring, and without using tools. Water Generation Your yacht can safely be maneuvered with DuoGen water mode deployed. The unit starts to deliver power at lower water speeds than competitors. DuoGen's output in water mode is unbeatable, from under 2 knots to over 10 with the same impeller. Our water turbine cannot hit the seabed, so cannot be damaged, nor can it foul your yacht's propeller. The risk of turbine loss or damage through collision with other vessels, buoyage or floating debris is virtually eliminated. Turbine surfacing at high speeds is easily controlled, due to the adjustable diving plane. Amp for amp, drag from the deployment of DuoGen water mode is two-thirds that of other machines. Tidal generation is possible with DuoGen water mode. Wind Generation The low speed alternator allows the air turbine to operate at medium to low tip speed ratios, delivering quiet, non-threatening performance. You don't have to reach behind spinning blades to stop the wind turbine. DuoGen features a control handle which makes this operation completely safe. DuoGen's wind turbine does not rely solely on stall regulation to control rotor speed, but furls horizontally, reducing intercept area whilst maintaining output at high wind speeds. Turbine furling dramatically reduces wind loading, thereby moderating stresses on the wind generator, its mounting and your yacht's moorings. The design allows for the de-coupling and damping of the turbine, to ensure that minimum noise and vibration is transmitted to your yacht's accommodation. The yaw diameter of the wind turbine is extremely compact, reducing the risk of contact with other parts of the yacht's equipment, or crew. The hub area of the wind turbine is small and aerodynamically clean, allowing improved airflow over the blade roots, promoting early 'start up'. No slip rings are required in the yaw bearing, so problems associated with intermittent contact and power loss are removed. The blades are computer-designed, feature variable airfoil camber from root to tip, and are precision injection-moulded in tough glass reinforced nylon. DuoGen's air blades are extremely constant in terms of mass, producing a finely balanced rotor regardless of the order in which they are assembled. The blades feature a unique root system, whereby they can be fitted together, or taken apart, without using tools. This assembly is then locked together with our hub and clamp plate, rendering the unit secure and robust. When not in use, the wind turbine is quickly disassembled, and can be stored compactly in the drawstring bag provided. Purpose Designed DuoGen looks good.
